LAHORE: A major decision has been taken to promote the Punjabi language in public-sector schools.

The Punjab government, emphasizing the need to encourage Punjabi conversation among students, has instructed all government schools to teach polite and refined Punjabi.

Students are being advised to use respectful expressions such as “tusi” and “assi”, while avoiding informal or non-standard Punjabi vocabulary.

Directions have also been issued to promote regional languages, Saraiki in South Punjab and Pothohari in North Punjab, by organizing student activities in their respective local languages. Head teachers have been instructed to ensure the arrangement and proper execution of these cultural and linguistic activities.

Schools have further been directed to record videos of students conversing in Punjabi or their local languages and share all such videos in the official CEOs’ group.

School heads have also been asked to submit compliance reports regarding the implementation of these instructions.
