ISLAMABAD: According to the World Justice Project (WJP) Rule of Law Index 2025, Denmark has once again been ranked as the country with the strongest adherence to the rule of law, while Pakistan remains at the 130th position, showing no improvement from last year.
The report states that the rule of law has weakened in most countries, with 68% of nations showing a decline compared to the previous year.
Following Denmark, Norway, Finland, and Sweden secured the next top positions. Meanwhile, the United States dropped to 27th place, while China showed a slight improvement, ranking 92nd this year. India maintained its position at 79th.
At the bottom of the list are Venezuela (143rd) and Afghanistan (142nd), with Russia and Sudan also showing notable declines.
The report highlights growing concerns about the erosion of checks on government power and the rise of authoritarian tendencies worldwide, posing a serious threat to the global rule of law.
