LAHORE: Dense fog continues to grip Punjab and Sindh, severely affecting road traffic and forcing the closure of several motorway sections, officials said on Thursday.

According to a spokesperson for the Central Region Motorway Police, the M-2 motorway has been closed from Lahore to Kot Momin due to poor visibility caused by heavy fog. Severe fog has also engulfed Okara, Sahiwal, Kassowal, Mian Channu, Khanewal, Lodhran, and Bahawalpur.

Several other motorways have also been shut down, including the M-3 from Faizpur to Taranjana, the M-4 from Pindi Bhattian to Multan, and the M-5 from Multan to Rohri, as visibility dropped to dangerous levels.

In Balochistan, traffic on the national highway leading to and from Quetta has been suspended due to dense fog. Motorway Police have advised drivers to use fog lights and exercise extreme caution while traveling.

Heavy fog has also been reported in Ahmedpur Sharqia, Taranda Muhammad Panah, Iqbal Nagar, Rahim Yar Khan, Sadiqabad, and areas of Dera Murad Jamali including Manjho Shori, Mangoli, and Notal.

SSP Highway Abdul Aziz Sirprah confirmed that the national highway has been closed for traffic heading towards Quetta due to low visibility.

Authorities have once again urged motorists to use fog lights and avoid unnecessary travel until conditions improve.
