Deployment of Rangers in Azad Kashmir approved

Six platoons of the paramilitary force will be on standby to maintain order in key areas.

ISLAMABAD: Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi has approved the deployment of Rangers in Azad Kashmir to help police in maintenance of law and order.

The approval was given by the minister at a meeting with Azad Kashmir Prime Minister Chaudhry Anwarul Haq in Islamabad today.

The AJK prime minister requested the federal government to deploy the paramilitary force to assist the AJK police in maintaining law and order in key areas.

The Rangers will be deployed for foolproof security of Neelum, Jhelum, Mangla and Gulpur power houses in Azad Kashmir. The deployment will be initially for a period of three times and could be extended.

The minister on the occasion said that steps would be taken for ensuring foolproof security in Azad Kashmir and the federal government will fulfill its promises made with the people of AJK.

It may be mentioned here that recently people of Azad Kashmir took to the streets and attacked key installations demanding availability of electricity on concessional rates. The government accepted all their demands abs allocated funds in the federal budget.
