The development was disclosed in a report submitted by the Punjab home secretary before the Lahore High Court during a hearing on a petition seeking the recovery of the three women.
Justice Abhar Gul Khan heard the case, while the Punjab home secretary and the superintendent of Kot Lakhpat Jail appeared before the court.
According to the report, the government extended the women’s detention for a further 30 days on October 7, following a recommendation from the deputy commissioner.
During the hearing, the government lawyer informed the court about the extension. Justice Abhar Gul Khan observed that the detention notification had been issued by the deputy commissioner, who had not been made a party to the petition.
The judge told the petitioner’s counsel that the court could not pass an order beyond the scope of the petition.
After considering the home secretary’s report, the court disposed of the petition.
