ECP Confirms Hasan Raza As Acting SIC Chairman

ISLAMABAD: Sahibzada Hasan Raza has been appointed as the acting chairman of the Sunni Ittehad Council following the disqualification of the council’s leader, Sahibzada Hamid Raza.

The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has confirmed the appointment in accordance with the council’s constitution and issued an official notification to that effect. Sahibzada Hasan Raza will serve as acting chairman until intra-party by-elections are conducted.

Sahibzada Hamid Raza was disqualified after being sentenced by the Faisalabad Anti-Terrorism Court in connection with the May 9 case. The Election Commission subsequently issued his disqualification notification.

The Sunni Ittehad Council, one of Pakistan’s prominent religious political organizations, plays a significant role in representing Sunni communities in the country.

The leadership change comes at a critical time as the council prepares for upcoming internal elections, which are expected to shape its political strategies in the coming months.
