ECP decided to hold by-elections in 8 constituencies on demand of PPP
Election Commission has decided to hold by-elections on six provincial and two National Assembly seats. Chief Election Commissioner Sikandar Sultan Raja directed to release the schedule of by-elections.
In a meeting chaired by the Chief Election Commissioner, the Secretary Election Commission said that by-elections are to be held on three seats of Sindh Assembly, one each of Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan Assembly. One seat each in the National Assembly from Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is also vacant. By-elections in all constituencies could not be held due to the Corona epidemic.
PPP leader Taj Haider, who was present at the meeting, said that under the Constitution of Pakistan and the law, elections must be held within 60 days on a vacant seat in any constituency. All provincial assemblies and the National Assembly are electoral colleges for Senate elections. If by-elections are not held, the Electoral College will remain incomplete.
Chief Election Commissioner Sikandar Sultan Raja directed to release the schedule of by-elections for the eight vacant seats and directed the provinces to ensure full implementation of Corona SOPs during the conduct of elections.
