QUETTA: The dead bodies of seven of the total 18 people stuck in a coalmine in Harnai area of Balochistan have been retrieved, rescuers said.
The 18 workers got trapped inside after an explosion caused by a gas leakage in the coalmine. A senior rescue official said two teams were trying to retrieve the workers trapped at a depth of about 1,000 feet.
He said so far eight of the workers have been rescued alive and seven others dead. Efforts were continuing to take out the remaining.
Many workers die in similar incidents due to lack of modern safety and rescue arrangements in Pakistan.
In other countries, governments have put in place proper systems to cope with emergencies to save lives. Recently, a large number of workers were saved when a road tunnel they were working on caved in in India. All the 41 workers were taken out safely after 17 days.
