Eight Women Killed as Roof Collapses During BISP Cash Distribution

RAHIM YAR KHAN: At least 8 women were killed and 65 others injured when the roof of a shop collapsed while they were gathered to receive financial aid under the Benazir Income Support Program (BISP).

The tragic incident occurred this morning around 10:30 AM in Chak 123.

Commissioner Bahawalpur Division, Musarrat Jabeen, and Regional Police Officer Ghazi Salahuddin Sheikh visited the hospital to oversee the treatment of the injured and review relief arrangements. Speaking at a press conference, they said the collapse happened due to overcrowding on the roof during the cash distribution.

A total of 76 injured were brought to the hospital, of whom 16 have been discharged after receiving medical treatment. Currently, 45 patients remain under care, but officials confirmed that their condition is stable.

Commissioner Jabeen emphasized that the hospital administration is providing the best possible medical care to the injured. She also vowed that strict action would be taken against those responsible to prevent such incidents in the future.
