NEW YORK: The Consul General of Pakistan in New York Aamer Ahmed Atozai praised the growing contributions of Pakistani-American youth in the arts during a recent film promo and fundraiser event for Rishta, an upcoming film by Pakistani-American filmmaker Ali Pervez.
Speaking as Chief Guest, Mr. Atozai highlighted the significance of creative expression within the diaspora, noting that Pakistani-Americans have long excelled in professions such as medicine, engineering, and technology. However, he emphasized that the community’s increasing engagement in film, media, and the arts represents a powerful and necessary expansion of their impact.
“Art and storytelling are essential for representing the diversity of our experiences,” said Mr. Atozai. “The creative efforts of young Pakistani-Americans not only preserve cultural identity but also enrich the broader American narrative.”
The Consul General lauded Rishta, which explores sibling dynamics in first-generation immigrant families, as a meaningful example of this cultural evolution. He reaffirmed the Consulate’s commitment to supporting young voices in creative industries and encouraged continued exploration of identity through art.
The event served as both a celebration of talent and a platform for fostering a deeper understanding of the Pakistani-American experience.
