Ex-JI senator, others held for trying to hold Gaza march

Police say JI tried to hold rally at D Chowk in violation of Section 144 already imposed in Islamabad.

ISLAMABAD: The police in Islamabad have arrested a former Jamaat Islami Senator and his wife along with scores of the supporters of the party for violating Section 144 to hold a rally in support of the people of Gaza.

Police said the JI leader and former senator Mushtaq Ahmed tried to hold a rally at D Chowk in violation of Section 144 in Islamabad. He said without the permission from the district administration no public gathering was allowed in the capital city.

The Islamabad police confirmed that they had taken into custody the Jamaat leader and activists for violating the ban on holding public rallies under Section 144.

On October 28, the police in Islamabad had also took action against the JI before holding a ‘Save Gaza’ march and dismantled its camp.
