ISLAMABAD: Former federal minister and key leader of jailed former prime minister Imran Khan’s PTI party has announced to quit politics and basic membership of the party.
In a post on social networking platform of X, he said that after over a decade of public life he has decided to completely quit politics.
Umar said he had earlier publicly stated that he was not in favor of a confrontation policy against state institutions. Such a policy has resulted in a serious collision with state institutions which was not in the interest of the country.
Announcing to quit from the basic membership of the PTI, he said he was thankful to all those who supported him in politics. He especially thanked the residents of NA 54 Islamabad for twice electing him to the National Assembly.
It may be noted here that a number of leaders and close aides of Imran Khan have left the party after denouncing the May 11 arson attacks on military installations following the brief arrest of the party chief.
Over 100 supporters of the party are still in jail for their direct involvement in the attacks especially on the GHQ Raealpindi and the Corps commander house in Lahore.
