Azam Khan’s statement recorded in cipher case

Says former prime minister Imran Khan kept copy of cipher and later said it had gone missing.

RAWALPINDI: Former prime minister Imran Khan’s principal secretary Azam Khan on Thursday recorded his statement in the cipher case. 

The hearing of the case was conducted by special court judge Abul Hasnat Zulqarnain inside the Adiala jail.

Azam Khan said that the copy of the cipher was handed over to then prime minister Imran Khan who kept it and later claimed that it had gone missing. 

He said that in routine cipher is sent to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs but in this case it wasn’t and as long as I was at the Prime Minister house the cipher was there.

Later, Imran Khan waved the cipher in a public gathering in Islamabad but its content was not read it out.

The the cipher case has been lodged against former prime minister Imran Khan and ex-foreign minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi.

During the hearing of the case by Special Court Judge Abual Hasnat Zulqarnain, Imran Khan, Shah Mahmood Qureshi, their families and lawyers of the accused and prosecutors were present 

Earlier, the court had recorded the statements of former ambassador to the US Asad Majeed, and other witnesses.

Public prosecutor Shah Khabar had told media after the earlier heating that the statements of 25 out of the total 28 witnesses had been recorded.

He said that the Supreme Court of Pakistan had granted bail to Imran Khan and Shah Mahmood on technical ground and it was clearly mentioned in the court order that it would have no impact on the trial of the case.

Moreover, Islamabad High Court order was also clear which stated that the Special Court can make the trial open and can hold the proceedings in camera. 

The court adjourned further hearing of the case till January 22.
