ISLAMABAD: An extraordinary session of OIC executive committee started in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, on Wednesday to discuss the situation rising out of the killing of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh and the Gaza situation.
The Hamas leader was killed in Iran where he had gone to attend the oath taking ceremony of the president of the country.
The extraordinary OIC meeting is attended by a Pakistani delegation headed by deputy prime minister in foreign minister Ishaq Dar.
The Islamic countries at the session will discuss the situation particularly the Iranian threat of retaliation against Israel which is being accused of planning the assassination of the Hamas leader.
Officials at the foreign office said that Pakistan would call upon the international community to work for durable peace in Gaza by following the two-state solution to the Palestinian issue. They would also call on both parties to avoid escalation in the current situation.
