LONDON: A news website in England has been accused of running the fake news that led to communal riots and violence in the UK.
According to British media reports, the website called Channel3Now in its report last month claimed that the killer of three young girls in South Port city was a Muslim immigrant. However, the effect was that the killer was a national of Uganda.
The fake news led to communal violence in England that left scores of people dead and property worth billions of pounds damaged.
A reporter namely Farhan Aziz was working for the channel from Pakistan and when reporters from a British media outlet contracted Farhan in Pakistan he said he was not responsible for the writing of the fake news or posting it on the website. He said that those who had posted the fake news on the website had been terminated from their job by the website.
According to the media reports, the website that ran the fake story is now closed. The management of the website said that around 30 people from America, England, India and Pakistan work for the website. The fake news was posted by the team of the website based in England.
The website publishes news about crime after collected them from the police and other authorities and share it on social media to on revenue.
