ISLAMABAD: The federal government is expected to present the budget for the fiscal year 2026–27 on June 5, according to official sources.

Preparations are underway to release the Economic Survey on June 4, a day before the budget announcement. The survey will outline key economic indicators and performance for the outgoing fiscal year.

Sources further revealed that the meeting of the National Economic Council, chaired by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, is now likely to be held on June 3 instead of the previously scheduled May 22.

Similarly, the Annual Plan Coordination Committee meeting has been rescheduled from May 20 to June 1 as part of the revised budget timeline.

Officials confirmed that consultations between the government and the International Monetary Fund are ongoing. The IMF has reportedly urged provincial governments to increase revenue by an additional 400 billion rupees, while both sides have reached agreement on several key budgetary points.

The upcoming budget is expected to reflect ongoing economic challenges as well as commitments made under international financial arrangements.
