KOHAT: A female doctor was shot dead by unidentified assailants in Kohat, triggering strong protests from the medical community and a strike announcement by the Young Doctors Association (YDA).
According to the President of the Young Doctors Association Kohat, Dr. Mehwish had completed her evening duty at the District Hospital and was on her way home in a rickshaw when armed attackers opened fire on her near the hospital premises. She died on the spot.
The Young Doctors Association expressed serious concern over the lack of security for medical staff who perform round-the-clock duties. The association stated that healthcare workers are not being provided with adequate protection despite ongoing security risks.
In response to the incident, young doctors have announced a strike in all government hospitals across Kohat starting today. The association has also warned that the protest may be expanded to the provincial level in the next phase.
Authorities have yet to release details regarding the motive behind the attack or the identity of the perpetrators. An investigation is reportedly underway.
