Olivia reportedly lost consciousness while being administered anaesthesia before the procedure. She was immediately taken to a hospital, where she was later pronounced dead.
According to her parents, Olivia remained under medical care at the hospital after being given the anaesthetic before she died.
Helsinki police said they received a formal request to investigate the death three days after the incident. An investigation has since been launched to determine whether any criminal conduct was involved.
Olivia’s parents believe a mistake by the clinic performing the cosmetic procedure may have contributed to her death. However, the investigation is still at an early stage and further details have not yet been released.
Olivia began using Instagram at the age of 14 and gained thousands of followers. She received wider attention in 2016 through the documentary “The Perfect Selfie,” which followed her relationship with social media for around 18 months.
She later deactivated her Instagram account and moved to Amsterdam in 2017. After returning to Finland, she struggled with sleeping-pill and alcohol addiction, but subsequently underwent treatment and worked to rebuild her life.
