For the first time, a case has been registered against two persons on the charge of desecrating the Holy Quran in Denmark.
According to foreign media reports, this is the first case under a new law outlawing the desecration of the Quran in Denmark.
The two suspects were not identified but they have been charged with desecrating the holy book of Islam during a festival in June. No further details about the allegations alleged were provided by authorities to the media.
It may be recalled that in 2023, there were several incidents of desecration of the Holy Quran in Denmark and Sweden, after which Muslim countries demanded a ban on such heinous acts.
The incident in Denmark caused outrage in the Muslim world. On December 7, 2023, a bill was passed in Denmark to declare the desecration of the Holy Quran illegal, which came into effect a few days later.
Under the law, those found involved in such an acts can be fined or imprisoned for up to two years.
