UPPER DIR: Police in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Upper Dir district carried out a joint operation against militants late Sunday night, acting on intelligence reports.
The exchange of fire left five militants dead, while eight policemen were injured and one civilian lost his life.
According to District Police Officer (DPO) Upper Dir, the operation was conducted in various areas including Dobando, Birkot, Salam Kot, and Hatun Dara as part of an ongoing crackdown against “Fitna al-Khawarij.”
A local resident of Salam Kot, identified as Yar Muhammad, was killed during the operation. His funeral prayers were offered at the police lines late at night.
Police officials said the slain militants were involved in the August 14 attack on a police van in Panah Kot, Dir, in which three policemen were martyred and six others wounded.
