KARAK: At least five policemen were martyred when unidentified attackers opened fire on a police mobile van in the Karak district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Tuesday.
According to police officials, the attack took place in the Gargarai Dami Banda area within the limits of Garagri Police Station. After the intense firing, the police vehicle caught fire, resulting in the martyrdom of all five personnel on board.
Security forces cordoned off the area following the incident and launched a search operation to trace the attackers. Evidence is being collected, and an investigation has been initiated to determine all aspects of the attack.
The martyred officers have been identified as Shahid Iqbal, Safdar, Arif, and Muhammad Abrar, while the identity of the fifth officer is being confirmed.
District Police Officer (DPO) Karak, Saud Khan, stated that investigations are underway and no effort will be spared to bring those responsible to justice.
Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi strongly condemned the attack and expressed deep sorrow over the martyrdom of the police officers. He paid rich tribute to their sacrifices, stating that the officers laid down their lives in the line of duty and set a great example of bravery.
He emphasized that the sacrifices of the martyrs would not go in vain and that the state would respond with full force.
