BAGH: In a tragic incident, five police personnel lost their lives after their vehicle fell into a deep ravine in the Lasdanna area of Bagh district in Azad Kashmir on Wednesday.
According to Bagh Deputy Commissioner, the deceased included Assistant Director of Police Zakir Awan, Inspector General’s Reader Ali Bukhari and police officer Faheem. SHO Khai Gala Naveed and Inspector Yasir Kayani were also among those who died in the accident.
Initial reports suggest the incident occurred on a road that had previously been declared unsafe for vehicular traffic. On May 16, the Azad Kashmir Transport Authority issued an official directive to keep the Lasdanna road closed due to incomplete construction work.
The letter, sent to the Deputy Commissioner Poonch, Superintendent of Police Poonch, and other concerned officials, warned that the road lacked safety walls and parapets, posing a serious risk to travelers. The same stretch of road had witnessed a fatal accident in the past, resulting in multiple casualties.
Authorities had clearly stated that no NOC (No Objection Certificate) should be granted for public transport use until the road’s construction was complete. Despite these warnings, it appears the directives were not enforced, leading to another devastating accident.
A full investigation into the incident is expected, with questions being raised about the lack of adherence to safety advisories and road closure orders.
