Floods Cause Postponement of By-Elections Across Pakistan

ISLAMABAD: Due to severe flooding across the country, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has postponed several by-elections.

The elections for five National Assembly seats and four Punjab Assembly constituencies have been deferred until further notice.

The National Assembly constituencies affected include NA-66 (Wazirabad), NA-96, NA-104 (Faisalabad), NA-129 (Lahore), and NA-143 (Sahiwal).

Meanwhile, the Punjab Assembly constituencies where by-elections have been postponed are PP-73 (Sargodha), PP-87 (Mianwali), PP-97 (Faisalabad), and PP-203 (Sahiwal).

The ECP stated that the decision was made in light of the ongoing flood situation, which has disrupted normal life and created challenges for holding safe and fair elections.

Officials emphasized that the safety of voters and election staff is a top priority and that elections will only be rescheduled when conditions are suitable to ensure a smooth electoral process. The government and relevant authorities continue their efforts to provide relief and restore normalcy in the affected areas.

Further announcements regarding the new dates for these by-elections will be made once the situation improves.
