Formation of inter-provincial body ordered on Kachhi Canal project

Kakar asks departments concerned to construct check dams in Balochistan to utilize water coming from mountain nullahs.

ISLAMABAD: Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaarul Haq Kakar on Tuesday directed the quarters concerned to form an inter-provincial committee, comprising caretaker ministers for planning and chief ministers of Punjab and Balochistan on the construction of the Kachhi Canal project.

He also advised the departments concerned to construct check dams in Balochistan to utilize water coming from mountain nullahs.

Mr Kakar was chairing a meeting held to discuss matters related to Balochistan. He said climate resilience and climate finance should be kept in view in all projects of irrigation in Balochistan.

Mr Kakar said construction of two-lane Khuzdar-Karachi highway should be expedited. This will provide an alternate route to different parts of the country.

He instructed to install tracker system on trawlers to prevent poaching of fish in Pakistan’s territorial waters. Besides, a coordinated system, in cooperation with the National Highways and Motorways Police and NADRA, should be introduced for registration and fitness of vehicles.

Regarding measures to give mining the status of an industry, the meeting was told that a Rescue 1122 center had been established in Quetta for the facilitation of miners.

A coordinated vehicle testing system is being introduced to ensure safe journey on motorways, highways and roads in Balochistan. The Balochistan government, in cooperation with the federal government, is taking measures against illegal fishing in the territorial waters of Pakistan.

The meeting was briefed that the data of all employees of the Balochistan government was being verified from NADRA to enhance administrative transparency.
