Four Candidates Enter KP CM Race, Nomination Papers Approved

PESHAWAR: Political activity in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly has gained momentum ahead of the election for the leader of the house, with four candidates including Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf’s (PTI) nominee Sohail Khan Afridi officially entering the contest.

According to official sources, nomination papers were submitted by Mr Afridi of PTI, Maulana Lutfur Rehman of Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F), Arbab Zark of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), and Sardar Shahjahan of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N). All nomination papers were scrutinised and subsequently approved.

Meanwhile, Speaker of the KP Assembly, Babar Saleem Swati, chaired a consultative meeting in his chamber to review preparations for the upcoming election. The meeting was attended by Leader of the Opposition Dr Ibadullah, PTI KP President Junaid Akbar Khan, and the party’s chief ministerial candidate Sohail Afridi.

Participants held detailed discussions on the electoral process, the upcoming assembly session, and coordination with lawmakers. Speaker Swati said that the assembly represents democratic continuity and public representation. He expressed confidence that the election process would be completed in a transparent manner and in accordance with constitutional norms.

The election for the chief minister is scheduled to take place on Monday, October 13, and has been formally added to the assembly’s agenda. All necessary preparations have been finalised.
