ISLAMABAD: Four judges of the Islamabad High Court have moved the Supreme Court to challenge the 27th Constitutional Amendment.
The amendment has been contested by Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kayani, along with three other judges: Justice Babar Sattar, Justice Saman Rafat Imtiaz, and Justice Sardar Ejaz Ishaq Khan.
All four judges jointly prepared a draft petition questioning the validity of the amendment and submitted it to the Supreme Court.
However, the Supreme Court’s filing branch refused to accept the petition. The branch raised an objection stating that, after the enactment of the 27th Amendment, such constitutional matters no longer fall within the Supreme Court’s jurisdiction.
According to the objection, the petition should instead be filed before a constitutional court, as the Supreme Court is now barred from receiving constitutional cases following the amendment.
