Four killed on police checkpost in Kohat

Over 10 armed people attack Lachi picket and toll plaza at Indus Highway, say police.

KOHAT: In an increasing wave of terror incidents, armed people attacked a checkpoint/toll plaza at a highway near Kohat killing three policemen and a civilian.

The incident occured late at night on Indus Highway’s Lachi toll plaza near Kohat, according to the police.

The police identified the fallen personnel as Amjad, Junaid and Waqar.

This is the third attack on police in different parts of Khyber Pakthunkhwa within less than three days.

Early on Jan 8, a vehicle carrying policemen for deployment with polio workers was targetted in Bajaur in which five police personnel and one other person lost their lives.

On Jan 9, two police officials guarding a polio team were shot dead by armed persons in Kohat.

Repeated attacks on security personnel have raised suspicions about the holding of the Feb 8 general elections in the country.

The elections were to be held not later than 90 days after dissolution of the assemblies in May 2023 in accordance with the provisions of the constitution.

However, it seems these would be further delayed keeping in view the terror incidents, mostly in KP and Balochistan provinces.
