The newly included sites are Bhamala in Haripur, Sethi House and Gor Khatri in Peshawar, and Barikot in Swat.

Provincial Information and Public Relations Minister Shafi Jan described the development as a major achievement for the provincial government and an international recognition of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s rich historical and cultural heritage.

He said the inclusion of these sites would further highlight the historical importance of the province at the global level. He added that the provincial government was continuing efforts to preserve, restore and promote the region’s heritage.

The minister said the protection and rehabilitation of historic sites, along with their introduction to an international audience, remained among the government’s priorities.

The addition to UNESCO’s Tentative List is an important step toward possible future World Heritage Site designation, although it does not itself constitute final UNESCO World Heritage status.
