DERA ISMAIL KHAN: Four police personnel, including a Station House Officer (SHO), were martyred and a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) was injured in a terrorist attack in Dera Ismail Khan (DI Khan), according to media reports.
Police officials said the attack occurred in the Panyala area, where militants opened fire from a concealed position. SHO Faheem Mumtaz, who was posted at Panyala Police Station, was martyred along with three other police personnel. The gunman of SP Paharpur Iqbal Baloch was also among those who lost their lives.
DSP Paharpur Adnan was seriously injured in the attack, while his driver also sustained injuries. President Asif Ali Zardari had previously awarded DSP Muhammad Adnan the Sitara-e-Shujaat for his services.
Following the incident, police cordoned off the area and launched a search operation. District Police Officer (DPO) Dera Ismail Khan reached the scene with heavy police contingents as the operation continued.
It is worth noting that in December, security forces conducted an operation in DI Khan against militants, during which seven militants were killed and weapons and ammunition were recovered.
According to the military’s spokesperson, those killed were involved in multiple terrorist activities. During that exchange of fire, Naik Yasir Khan, 34, a resident of Mardan, was martyred while fighting bravely.
