CHINNIOT: A target killer was gunned down along with an accomplice in what the authorities claimed an encounter with law enforcement agencies early on Saturday.
According to the Counter-Terrorism Department, Asghar Nadeem was involved in the killing of over 50 people in different parts of Punjab. He was also involved in an attack on the office of an intelligence agency in Faisalabad.
Nadeem carried out sectarian target killings of people and was on the run. The government he had announced a reward of 2.5 million rupees for catching him alive or dead.
The CTD said that based on intelligence reports, it conducted an operation on the hideout of the target killer but he along with his accomplice opened fire on the law enforcement personnel.
During the exchange of fire, Nadeem along be with one of his accomplices was killed. Arms and ammunition were recovered from the hideout, it added.
