LAHORE: In a joint operation at Lahore Airport, the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), Narcotics Control Board (NCB), Interpol and immigration authorities arrested a fugitive, Arsalan Ashraf, who was wanted in a serious criminal case.
According to the FIA spokesperson, Ashraf had been on the run for the past four years and was wanted by Punjab police in an attempted murder case. He was attempting to flee to South Africa when authorities intercepted him at the airport.
Interpol had earlier issued a Red Notice for his arrest, prompting increased surveillance at major exit points. Acting on a tip-off and with coordinated efforts, the agencies were able to track and detain the suspect just before he boarded an international flight.
The arrest is part of a broader crackdown on fugitives attempting to evade justice by leaving the country. FIA officials confirmed that Ashraf has now been handed over to Punjab Police and will face legal proceedings as per court directives.
Further investigations are underway to identify any accomplices or networks that may have assisted in his attempted escape.
