LAHORE: A gang of human smugglers has been busted by law enforcement agencies of Pakistan in the city of Lahore.
According to media reports, the federal investigation agency arrested the three members of the international gang on the basis of Intelligence reports. A spokesman for the FIA told media that the gang members extorted money from people by promising to send them abroad for employment. FIA officials also raided a printing press where the accused persons were preparing fake documents of different countries.
The officials said that the accused had links with people from India and Afghanistan and the network was being run to extort money as well as tarnish the image of Pakistan in the world as a human smuggler.
A government minister in Islamabad said that the operation was a landmark step to check human smuggling from Pakistan. He said that the government would take more steps against gangs involved in sending young people abroad on fake documents.
Every month, thousands of Pakistan leave the country in search of greener pastures abroad through human smugglers and end up in jails of different countries, face death while crossing borders or deported back. In this vicious cycle they also loss their hard earned money to the gangs of human smugglers.
