Gaza ceasefire talks begin in Doha today

Leaders of Palestinian resistance movement Hamas skip parleys.

DOHA: Talks have started over Gaza ceasefire at Doha, the capital city of Qatar; however, Palestinian resistance movement Hamas has announced to skip the parleys.

The talks are joined by representatives from the United States of America, Israel, Egypt and Qatar. However, the political leaders of Hamas said that they would like to know about the progress made on the agreement signed iver the Gaza ceasefire in July this year.

It may be noted here that American President Joe Biden had earlier announced that the Gaza ceasefire would comprise three phases. The first phase would spread over six months during which the Israeli forces would leave Gaza making it possible for the displaced people to return to their areas and allowing about 600 trucks relief goods to enter the war devastated city.

In the second phase, Israel and Hamas would hold talks and devise a plan for a permanent ceasefire, while the third phase will be for the reconstruction of Gaza.

It has been reported that before the start of the talks in Qatar, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and American presidential candidate Donald Trump have a telephonic conversation.

According to the reports, Mr Trump has suggested to the Israeli Prime Minister to make progress and accept the proposed agreement on a ceasefire in Gaza.
