RIYADH: The Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) has strongly condemned Iran’s recent attacks on Bahrain, Kuwait and Jordan, describing them as war crimes and a serious violation of international law.

Iran targeted US military installations in the three countries in retaliation for recent American strikes, prompting widespread condemnation from Gulf states and regional organisations.

In a statement, GCC Secretary-General Jasem Mohamed Albudaiwi said the deliberate targeting of civilian facilities and critical infrastructure constituted a grave breach of international law and the United Nations Charter.

He warned that the attacks had significantly heightened regional tensions and posed a serious threat to peace and stability in the Gulf. Deliberate strikes on civilian infrastructure and public facilities, he said, fall under the category of war crimes.

Albudaiwi urged the international community not to remain silent over the attacks and called for those responsible to be held accountable under international law.

He also demanded an independent international investigation into the incidents and called for legal action against those responsible.

Reaffirming the GCC’s solidarity with its member states, the Secretary-General said the Council stands firmly with Bahrain, Kuwait and Jordan in safeguarding their security, sovereignty and stability.
