ISLAMABAD: Several prominent figures from Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) have joined the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP).
Those joining included former GB Minister Mushtaq Hussain, his brother Dr. Ashiq, Imran Nadeem, retired SP Abdul Hameed, Raja Nasir, Sajid Danish, and others.
Speaking at a ceremony at the PPP Secretariat in Islamabad, Secretary-General Nayyer Bukhari welcomed the new members, stating that joining the party is unconditional. He expressed confidence that the PPP would secure a significant majority in the upcoming GB elections and that the next Chief Minister would be from the party.
Bukhari emphasized the importance of respecting the public’s choice, saying that whoever the people elect should be given power. He also criticized the central government in 2020, which was led by PTI at the time, for allegedly rigging elections in GB.
He recalled that when PPP founder, the late Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, assumed power, he implemented transformative initiatives for Gilgit-Baltistan, which earned lasting loyalty from the people of the region.
