Girls’ school burnt down in South Wazirstan

School management says elements opposing girls' education had also opened fire on school in March.

PESHAWAR: A girls school was burnt down by unknown persons in the Razmak subdivision of North Wazirstan, local people told police of the area on Wednesday morning.

They said that school building along with records of students, computers and furniture were gutted in the fire ignited late at night.

The management of the Golden Arrow Public School at Shakhimar said that elements opposing girls’ education had in March opened fire on the school damaging its solar panels. 

There are about 400 girl students in the school and the parents have called upon the authorities concerned to repair the school and take action against the culprits.

Girls’ schools in the tribal districts of Khyber Pakthunkhwa have often come under attack in the past. Elements opposing girls’ education had also bombed many schools in North and South Wazirstan.
