Gohar Ali Khan elected unopposed chairman of PTI

Umar Ayub elected general secretary in intra-party election.

ISLAMABAD: Gohar Ali Khan was on Saturday elected unopposed chairman of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf in the intra-party election of the party to meet the requirement of the Election Commission of Pakistan.

Chief election commissioner of the PTI Niazullah Niazi announced his name. He said Umar Ayub Khan was also elected unopposed secretary general of the party.

Moreover, Dr Yasmin Rashid was elected as president of PTI Punjab and Ali Amin Gandapur as president of PTI Khyber Pakthunkhwa. 

Gohar Ali Khan said he would be working as the chairman of the PTI in place of Imran Khan until he is freed from jail where he is facing scores of cases.

Meanwhile, disgruntled PTI founding member Akbar S. Babar announced to challenge the intra-party election.

He said there were irregularities in the election and he would challenge the polls in the Election Commission of Pakistan. He said under a decision of the high court he was still the founding leader of the PTI and wanted to take part in the intra-party election.
