LAHORE: Following the federal government’s announcement of a reduction in petroleum product prices, the Pakistan Goods Transport Alliance has announced a 40% reduction in freight charges.
President of the Pakistan Goods Transport Alliance, Malik Shehzad Awan, welcomed the government’s decision, saying that the benefit of reduced fuel prices should be passed on to the public. He added that freight charges are being reduced by 40% in response to the decrease in petroleum prices.
He expressed hope that the government would further reduce fuel prices in the future. He also urged federal and provincial authorities to provide relief in toll taxes and withholding taxes to further improve the transport sector.
Earlier, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, in a televised address, announced a major reduction in petroleum prices. He said that the price of diesel has been reduced by Rs135 per litre, while petrol has been cut by Rs12 per litre.
