ISLAMABAD: The federal government on Sunday requested Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman to withdraw his decision of holding a sit-in outside the Supreme Court on Monday.
In this regard, Federal Finance Minister Ishaq Dar and Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah met Maulana Rehman and conveyed the government request to him.
The meeting took place amidst the current political unrest in Pakistan and the PDM’s planned protest outside the Supreme Court. Ishaq Dar and Rana Sanaullah urged Maulana Fazlur Rehman to reconsider the protest location and hold protest at D-chowk.
Mr Sanaullah later told a press conference that he had requested the PDM chief to change the location of protest due to security concerns, adding that reports presented to him were ‘alarming’ while hoping that he was expecting a positive response.
He added that the people were angry and if protests occurred in red zone, it would be difficult to control them. But the PDM chief was yet to reach a decision.
Earlier, PDM chief announced that they would continue sit-in outside the Supreme Court of Pakistan until the Chief Justice of Pakistan, Umar Ata Bandial resigns from his office.
