LAHORE: Government interventions in Lahore are beginning to show gradual improvement in the city’s Air Quality Index (AQI).
Authorities have intensified actions as weak winds during the night and early morning contributed to rising pollution levels. All non-compliant construction sites have been placed on a red list.
The Punjab government has ordered the immediate removal of debris from ongoing construction sites, warning of heavy fines for violations. Even the construction site at the EPA headquarters received a warning for non-compliance.
The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has launched major crackdowns in high AQI zones, conducting 18 operations across the city. A water sprinkling operation was carried out in the UET hotspot to reduce dust levels.
Sixteen construction sites were sealed for violating standard operating procedures, including a site on Union Town’s Abdul Sattar Edhi Road, which was fined one hundred thousand rupees.
Senior Provincial Minister Maryam Aurangzeb stated that daily field reports are reviewed by the Punjab Chief Minister.
