ISLAMABAD: The federal government has placed several prominent Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leaders on the Exit Control List (ECL), effectively barring them from travelling abroad.
The decision has been taken in connection with investigations into the May 9 riots.
The Punjab Home Department had earlier forwarded its recommendations along with a list of names to the federal government, after which the ECL Committee reviewed and approved the proposals.
Those whose names have been added to the ECL include Imran Khan, Shah Mahmood Qureshi, Omar Ayub, Fawad Chaudhry, Shibli Faraz, Ali Amin Gandapur, Shehryar Afridi, and Usman Dar. The names of Shireen Mazari, Zartaj Gul, Musarrat Jamshed Cheema and Kanwal Shauzab have also been included.
Sources said that the restrictions on foreign travel had also been imposed on Sheikh Rashid Ahmed, Sheikh Rashid Shafiq, Tahir Sadiq, Raja Basharat and Waris Qayyum, among others.
