ISLAMABAD: The federal government has decided to introduce a quota-based petrol distribution system, aiming to manage fuel consumption through a digital platform, according to official sources.
Under the proposed plan, the government will implement a rationing mechanism for petroleum products using a dedicated mobile application, which is currently under development. Once launched, citizens will be required to download the app and register by entering their vehicle registration number along with their national identity card (CNIC) details.
Sources indicate that each individual will be allocated a specific petrol quota based on their usage needs and overall fuel availability in the country. The initiative is intended to ensure fair distribution and prevent shortages amid fluctuating energy conditions.
Officials have already said that Pakistan currently maintains satisfactory levels of oil and gas reserves. However, the new system is being introduced as a precautionary and management measure to streamline consumption and improve transparency in fuel distribution.
Further details regarding the rollout date and implementation strategy of the app are expected to be announced soon.
