A high-level meeting was held in Islamabad, attended by Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar, Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry and senior officials. The meeting reviewed administrative, legal and security measures related to the planned protest.
According to reports, the possibility of holding talks with the PTI was also discussed. Interior Minister Talal Chaudhry has separately said that dialogue remains a possible way forward and expressed hope that the issue could be resolved before the march.
The meeting also examined preparations to deal with the march and discussed the possibility of restricting mobile and internet services in areas affected by the protest. The Punjab government has requested restrictions on mobile and internet services at specific locations in Rawalpindi and Attock for September 27.
However, according to the report provided, authorities agreed not to immediately suspend internet services in Islamabad. The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) was instructed to await further directions from the Interior Ministry before taking any action.
Security preparations have also been stepped up. The federal government has authorised the deployment of Pakistan Rangers in Islamabad and several districts of Punjab from September 20 to October 5 in connection with security arrangements.
Meanwhile, the government has said it prefers dialogue and minimum use of force, while the PTI has maintained that its planned march will proceed. The latest reports indicate that discussions between the two sides remain possible, but the situation ahead of September 27 remains unsettled.
