ISLAMABAD: The federal government has rolled back key austerity and fuel conservation measures, restoring a five-day workweek and full operational capacity across public sector institutions, according to an official notification issued by the Cabinet Division.
The decision ends the previously enforced additional weekly holiday, bringing government offices back to a standard five-day schedule. Authorities said the move aims to normalize administrative functions and improve service delivery.
As part of the reversal, restrictions on fuel usage for official vehicles have also been lifted. Earlier cuts of up to 50 percent in fuel allocation have been withdrawn, while the suspension of nearly 60 percent of departmental vehicles has been reversed.
The government has further scrapped the policy requiring salary deductions for senior officers in Grade 20 and above, along with a blanket directive mandating a 20 percent reduction in departmental expenditures.
In addition, the requirement for public and private offices to operate with only 50 percent staff has been abolished, allowing institutions to resume full workforce attendance.
The notification also confirmed that restrictions on foreign official visits by federal and provincial ministers, advisers, and governors have been lifted.
Officials said the measures were initially introduced to curb expenditures and manage fuel consumption but have now been withdrawn in view of evolving administrative needs and the necessity to fully restore economic and governance activities.
