Govt starts process to arrest Zulfi Bukhari through Interpol

PTI leader is wanted in judicial complex attack case.

ISLAMABAD: While Nawaz Sharif is getting smooth sailing in getting relief from cases registered against him during the PTI regime, warrants and notices are being issued to jailed former prime minister Imran Khan’s party leaders.

The Ministry of Interior has started the legal process to arrest Zulfi Bukhari, a PTI leader and close aide to former prime minister Imran Khan.

The ministry has decided to issue red notice to Bukhari through the Interpol and in this regard has directed the Federal Investigation Agency to process the case

Bukhari is wanted in the judicial complex attack case and is currently out the country.

In March this year, supporters and workers of the PTI attacked the judicial complex in Islamabad when Imran Khan reached there to appear in the Toshakhana case.

A court in Islamabad on Wednesday also issued perpetual warrants for the arrest of nine senior leaders of the PTI. The PTI leaders are accused of instigating the attack during appearance of former prime minister and PTI chief Imran Khan in a court in connection with the Toshakhana case in March.

The nominated persons did not appear in the court despite repeated notices and today Judge Abul Hasnat Zulqarnain issued arrest warrants against them.

The PTI leaders against whom the warrants were issued included Hammad Azhar, Shibli Faraz, Murad Saeed, Omar Ayub Khan and Ali Amin Gandapur. Perpetual arrest warrants were also issued for Ali Nawaz Awan, Hassaan Khan Niazi, Umer Sultan and Muhammad Asim.

The judge directed the police to arrest the accused persons and present them before the court as they have already been declared proclaimed offenders.
