Govt To Give Rs2m Compensation for Families of Flood Victims

ISLAMABAD: The federal government has announced Rs 2 million in financial aid for the families of those who lost their lives in the recent floods.

Federal Information Minister Attaullah Tarar cautioned, however, that compensation will not be provided for damages caused by illegal constructions, and residents living in flood channels will not be eligible for government aid.

Speaking to journalists in Wazirabad, Tarar emphasized that the government has decided to ban all future construction in flood channels. Surveys are underway to assess the impact of the floods on homes, crops, and livestock.

The minister highlighted that, for the first time, three to four weather systems struck simultaneously, causing the overflowing of three rivers and prompting the rescue of over 200,000 people.

He lauded the Pakistan Army and local authorities for their timely response, which saved numerous lives.
