Gwadar submerged after 16-hour-long downpours

Residents leave houses after residential areas flooded by rainwater.

GWADAR: Heavy rain lashed most parts of Balochistan on Tuesday leaving many cities and villages submerged in water.

Gwadar was worst hit as rainwater flooded residential areas forcing residents to flee. Life has come to a standstill after 16 hours of downpours.

Newly-elected MNA Hidayatur Rehman of Haq Do Tehreek on social media said that the whole city has submerged in water due to lack of drainage lines.

He said rainwater also entered shops and caused losses to people worth billions of rupees. Other areas of Balochistan also received rain and snowfall due to which mobility was restricted.

The Met Office has forecast heavy rain and snowfall from today in other parts of the country as well.

A new weather system has entered Balochistan that could affect Khyber Pakthunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Kashmir. The departments concerned have been put on alert to meet any emergency situation.
