ISLAMABAD: A growing demand has emerged for the filing of a harassment case against Bihar’s Chief Minister Nitish Kumar after he pulled off the hijab of a Muslim woman doctor at a public event in Patna, Bihar.
According to Indian media reports, the incident occurred during a ceremony organized by the Ministry of AYUSH (Indian traditional medicine) to issue appointment letters to AYUSH doctors. Chief Minister Nitish Kumar was handing out the appointment letters when he pulled the hijab of the Muslim woman doctor.
The act has been widely condemned by Indian political leaders, journalists and human rights organizations as shameful.
The demand for a harassment case against Nitish Kumar has gained significant traction. The opposition Congress Party criticized the act, stating, “Look at Nitish Kumar’s shamelessness. He removed the hijab of a woman doctor who had come to collect her appointment letter. This disrespect is unforgivable.”
Former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti called for Nitish Kumar’s immediate resignation, while Samajwadi Party leader Akhilesh Yadav labeled the act as disgraceful.
Additionally, human rights activist Deepika Pushkar Nath described the incident as a serious case of sexual harassment.
