The delegation included international students from Albania, Ghana, Indonesia, Lebanon and the United States. The students are pursuing master’s degrees in international peacebuilding and were visiting Washington to attend a Peace and Justice Association conference.

During the visit, Pakistan’s Ambassador to the United States Rizwan Saeed Sheikh briefed the students on Pakistan’s diplomatic priorities and efforts to strengthen nearly eight decades of Pakistan-US relations.

The ambassador highlighted Pakistan’s historical role in international diplomacy, including its efforts to facilitate engagement between the United States and China and its involvement in the 1988 Geneva Accords.

He also discussed Pakistan’s recent diplomatic efforts concerning the United States-Iran conflict, saying Islamabad had played a role in bringing the two sides together and supporting regional peace efforts.

Saeed Sheikh said diplomacy was a continuous and gradual process in which confidentiality played an important role. He described the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding as an outcome of Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts.

The ambassador further said Pakistan had consistently advocated regional and global peace and continued to work with partners to promote stability. He also highlighted the challenges Pakistan faces from terrorism and the sacrifices made by the country in its fight against terrorism.

The students thanked the ambassador and the Pakistani embassy for providing them with an opportunity to learn about Pakistan’s diplomatic role and international peace efforts.
