LONDON: Heathrow Airport, the UK’s busiest, will be closed to all traffic throughout the day today due to a power outage.

According to British media reports, a fire broke out at the sub-station that supplies electricity to London’s Heathrow Airport, causing a serious disruption in the airport’s power supply.

A spokesman for Heathrow Airport said the airport will be closed until the night of March 21, and passengers should not come to the airport and contact the airlines instead.

According to media reports, about 1,300 flights land and take off every day at Heathrow Airport. Millions of passengers will face problems due to the closure of the airport all day.

British media said the fire at the substation in west London had also left thousands of homes without power, adding 150 homes near the substation had also been evacuated and the nearby population advised to keep their windows closed due to the s

moke.

As many as 10 fire engines and 70 firefighters were working to control the fire at the substation.
